Butter Chicken

A classic Indian dish featuring tender marinated chicken in a rich, buttery tomato sauce with aromatic spices.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs boneless chicken thighs, bite-sized
  • 0.5 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1.5 cups tomato puree
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt

Steps

  1. In a large bowl, mix the yogurt, lemon juice, turmeric, garam masala, cumin, and chicken. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add a splash of oil and cook the chicken in batches until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, melt the butter. Add the ginger garlic paste and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Pour in the tomato puree and salt. Simmer for 10-12 minutes on medium-low heat until the sauce thickens slightly.
  5. Stir in the heavy cream and sugar. Add the cooked chicken back into the sauce.
  6. Simmer for an additional 5 minutes to let the flavors meld. Serve hot with naan or basmati rice.
