Delicate tofu skin sheets wrapped around a savory seasoned pork and mushroom filling, steamed for a healthy and flavorful traditional dish.
Ingredients
- 300 g ground pork
- 4 large sheets tofu skin sheets
- 3 pieces dried shiitake mushrooms, soaked and minced
- 4 pieces water chestnuts, finely chopped
- 2 stalks green onions, finely chopped
- 1 tsp minced ginger
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 0.5 tsp sugar
- 0.25 tsp white pepper
Steps
- If using dried tofu sheets, soak them in warm water for a few minutes until pliable, then gently pat dry with paper towels.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground pork, minced mushrooms, water chestnuts, green onions, ginger, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, sugar, and white pepper.
- Stir the meat mixture vigorously in one direction for 2-3 minutes until it becomes slightly sticky and well combined.
- Lay one tofu sheet flat on a clean surface. Place a log-shaped portion of the meat filling along the edge closest to you.
- Fold the sides of the tofu sheet inward and roll it up tightly, similar to a spring roll or burrito. Repeat with the remaining sheets and filling.
- Place the rolls on a heat-proof plate. Prepare a steamer and steam the rolls over high heat for 12 to 15 minutes until the meat is fully cooked through.
- Remove from the steamer, let cool slightly, and slice into bite-sized pieces. Serve with a side of soy sauce or chili oil if desired.
