Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp hot water
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until the mixture is smooth.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Dissolve the baking soda in the hot water and add it to the batter along with the salt.
  5. Stir in the flour and chocolate chips until just combined.
  6. Drop large spoonfuls of dough onto ungreased cookie sheets, spaced about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for about 10 minutes, or until the edges are nicely browned. Let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
