Genmaicha Soy Milk Latte

By James Rotanson

Japanese · Dinner · Easy · 8 min · 4 ingredients

A cozy, comforting beverage combining the nutty, roasted rice flavor of genmaicha tea with creamy steamed soy milk.

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp genmaicha powder
  • 1/4 cup hot water
  • 3/4 cup soy milk
  • 1 tsp maple syrup or honey

Steps

  1. Sift the genmaicha powder into your mug to prevent clumping.
  2. Add the hot water (ideally around 80°C / 176°F) and whisk vigorously with a bamboo whisk or small electric frother until smooth and frothy.
  3. Heat the soy milk in a small saucepan over medium heat, or in the microwave, until hot but not boiling (around 60°C / 140°F).
  4. Froth the heated soy milk using a milk frother until creamy and foamy.
  5. Slowly pour the frothed soy milk into the mug over the whisked genmaicha base, holding back the foam with a spoon, then scoop the foam on top.
  6. Stir in your sweetener of choice to taste and enjoy warm.
